Visit of the Govervor General to London

It was announced from Government House on 28 March 2010 that His Excellency The Honourable Arthur D. Hanna desires to demit office as Governor-General of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, a position to which he was appointed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 1st February 2006. A formal request has been made to Her Majesty for His Excellency to demit office on 14th April, 2010. His Excellency has also requested an early farewell audience with The Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Arthur Dion “A.D.” Hanna (born March 7, 1928) is the seventh current Governor-General of the Bahamas.

Mr. Hanna has been active in Bahamian politics since the 1950s. As a member of the Progressive Liberal Party, he represented the Ann’s Town, Nassau constituency as a MP in the House of Assembly from 1960 to 1992.

During this time, Mr. Hanna assumed a number of important cabinet posts, including Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas from 1967 to 1984.

On February 1, 2006, Hanna was appointed Governor-General of the Bahamas by Elizabeth II, Queen of The Bahamas, on the advice of then Prime Minister Perry Christie.

The Governor General arrived in London yesterday and called Her Majesty today at 12:40pm. 

While in London the Governor General is accompanied by his Aide de Camp, Inspector Kirk Douglas.
