The Bahamas Celebrates 41 Years of Independence July 10th, 2014

Some 350 guests including the Bahamian Diaspora, members of the Diplomatic Corps and other dignitaries gather at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization in London to celebrate the 41st anniversary of Independence in The Bahamas. It was a fun-filled evening which got started with remarks by His Excellency Eldred Bethel, High Commissioner and Director of The Bahamas Maritime Authority, Davy Rolle.

High Commissioner Bethel along with his wife Mrs Dawne Bethel and Mr Rolle greeted the guests, many of whom were young Bahamian professionals and students.

In his remarks, High Commissioner Bethel described the growth of The Bahamas since Independence and told the Bahamian Diaspora there is much to be grateful for.

“July 10th, 1973 marked the culmination of an era of the greatest political advancement for the people of The Bahamas since the landfall on these islands by Christopher Columbus in 1492. On behalf of my wife, Dawne and the staff of The Bahamas High Commission, may I extend to the Bahamian Diaspora in the UK and Europe, a Happy Independence Day,” said High Commissioner Bethel.

Mr Rolle also wished the guests a Happy Independence Day and expressed his gratitude for a growing and developing nation.

Guests later enjoyed the signature junkanoo sounds by The Commandos Junkanoo Group who gave a grand performance.
