Bahamas High Commissioner at IMO International Maritime Law Institute in Malta (IMLI)

The IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) was established in 1988 under an Agreement between the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations and the Government of Malta. The Institute is currently headquartered in Malta, on the campus of the University of Malta.

To date The Bahamas has 3 graduates from the programme. As it seeks to up – date its legislative regime through review, revision and modification to keep in line with changes in International Maritime Law, the latest developments in marine technology and shipping practices; The Bahamas will require the services of well-trained legal personnel with specialisation in Maritime Shipping Law.

The industry will also require the need for persons with expertise and skills in the preparation and drafting of Legislative Instruments, including the preparation of primary legislation as well as the necessary subsidiary legislation for implementing the legal functions at state and industry levels.

In its 25 years, The International Maritime Law Institute has trained 683 students from 130 countries, in all its programmes and courses.

His Excellency, High Commissioner Eldred Bethel with Professor David Attard, Director of IMO International Maritime Law Institute
