Queen Baton Visit Bahamas High Commission in London in Honour of 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, The Bahamas July 2017
London United Kingdom, On 14th March 2017 the Queens Baton arrived at The Bahamas High Commission carried by the Gold Coast 2018 Team to mark the lead up to the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau Bahamas 19 through 23 July and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. The Team was greeted by His Excellency Eldred E Bethel, High Commissioner, and Mrs. Louise Martin CBE, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation. The Queens Baton was then presented to High Commissioner Bethel by President Martin followed by remarks.

On 13th March 2017, the Commonwealth of The Bahamas will join the other 51 Member Countries of the Commonwealth in observance of Commonwealth Day 2017. The theme is Celebrating A Peace-building Commonwealth.

This Commonwealth Day, a baton will set out from Buckingham Palace and begin a long and extraordinary journey. Over the next twelve months, the Baton will visit people living in the nations and territories of our Commonwealth family in every continent and ocean. Carried on its way by thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds, by the time it reaches its final destination, The Queens Baton will have brought together through its route and symbolism, almost 2.5 billion people who share the special connection of being Commonwealth citizens.

The Bahamas IMO Assessment Presentation
The Bahamas became the first country to pay its annual assessment at the International Maritime Organisation. The presentation took place at the IMO on February 2nd, 2017. The Bahamas is the sixth largest member state contributor to the IMO budget with a contribution of over 1.3 million pounds.

Bahamas Government Launches New Polycarbonate E-Passport System

Nassau, The Bahamas:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially launched its new polycarbonate E-Passport system. The launch of the system took place Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Passport Office on Thompson Boulevard.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, the Hon. Frederick Mitchell said this new system would expedite the processing of passports, noting: I look forward to greater customer satisfaction as a result of faster processing times.
Bahamas to Host UN Small Island Developing States Symposium

Nassau, The Bahamas: The Bahamas will host the United Nations Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Symposium. It is anticipated that delegates representing 37 United Nations member states will engage in high-level discussions during the symposium, which is scheduled for February 21-23 at Melia Nassau Beach Resort.

VOTER REGISTRATION
The Bahamas High Commission is now open for Voter Registration for Bahamians eligible to vote Overseas.
Please be advised that only Bahamian staff posted to a Bahamas Embassy, High Commission, Permanent Mission, Consulate, Bahamas Maritime Authority office and Tourism Office and their spouses, as well as Bahamian Students studying abroad, including first time voters, are eligible to register at the High Commission.
