CHRISTIE, PRIME MINISTER AND MINISTER OF FINANCE: On behalf of the Government and all the people of The Bahamas and on my personal behalf, I extend my most enthusiastic congratulations to the winners of the gold medal in the men’s 4 x 400 metres relay held in London today (Friday). The magnificent quartet of Chris Brown, Demetrius Pinder, Michael Mathieu and Ramon Miller have done our nation proud.

Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meet in London, 25 July 2012
Minister of Youth Sports & Culture, Hon. Daniel Johnson met with Sports ministers and senior officials from 43 Commonwealth nations in London on July 25 for the 6th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting. The meeting was chaired by Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and the Olympics for the United Kingdom.

Bahamas Represented in the Cultural Olympiad
The Cultural Olympiad, as part of the London 2012 Festival has kicked off in London and will culminate in the Olympic BT River of Music 21st and 22nd July, the weekend before the Olympic Opening Ceremony on July 27th. The Olympic BT River of Music is a celebration of music at various iconic sites along the Thames River, featuring artists from all the Olympic and Paralympic nations.

Appointment of Mr Thomas Herzog as Honorary Consul of The Bahamas in Frankfurt am Main, Germany
The High Commission is pleased to announce that Mr Thomas Herzog has been appointed as Honorary Consul for the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in Frankfurt am Main, with responsibility for all of Germany. His appointment took effect on 25 April 2012. H.E. Mr. Paul H Farquharson, High Commissioner and Ambassador to Germany, presented Mr. Herzog with his Letter of Commission on Thursday, 5 July 2012 at Bahamas London in London.

International Youth Forum Organised by Liege Expo 2017
The High Commission would like to invite Bahamian nationals between the ages of 18 and 30 who are resident in the United Kingdom, France or Belgium to submit an application to represent the Bahamas by participating in an International Youth Forum, organised by Liege Expo 2017.

His Excellency Mr. Paul H. Farquharson QPM, Ambassador of The Bahamas to the European Union, is currently leading a delegation to the Meetings of the ACP and ACP-EU Council of Ministers, taking place in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

U.S. and The Bahamas Commemorate Memorial Day and Pay Tribute to Fallen Heroes
On Monday, May 28, U.S. and Bahamian government officials as well as family members came together to mark Memorial Day by paying tribute to those who gave their lives for freedom. The occasion was also set aside to give special recognition to the ten members of US Patrol Squadron 23, LTJG William H. Martin; ENS John C. Tinney; AT3 Joseph A. Kiliszewski; ATAN Thomas R. Caylor; AT3 Albert J. Olson; ENS Leland R. Osborn; ADC John W. Holle; AO3 Franz E. Nelson; AD3 Gerald P. Lepard and AL1 Fred M. Sparks, who lost their lives during a training mission off of the coast of Nassau on May 7, 1954 and Bahamian Private First Class (PFC) Norman Darling who died in the Iraq War in 2004.
