Endangered Iguanas Intercepted in London
The High Commission can confirm that thirteen endangered iguanas were identified and seized from two arriving passengers from The Bahamas at London’s Heathrow Airport on Monday 3 February 2014. Two Romanian women, aged 24 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of importation offences and are being held without bail.

Minister of Education Meets the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth
The Hon. Jerome Fitzgerald, Minister of Education, Science & Technology, met with Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth at Marlborough House in London on Thursday 23 January 2013. The Meeting was to discuss the planning for the 19th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (19CCEM) which will be held in The Bahamas in June 2015 under the theme ‘Quality Education for Equitable Development: Performance, Paths and Productivity’.
Presentation of Credentials by H.E. Eldred Bethel to the President of the Italian Republic
H.E. Eldred Bethel, Ambassador-designate of The Bahamas to the Italian Republic, presented Credentials to His Excellency Giorgio Napolitano, President of Italy, at a Ceremony at Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome on Wednesday 22 January 2014. After the formal Presentation Ceremony, a private conversation ensued between the Ambassador and the President, and current issues including the economic recovery of both countries were among the topics of mutual interest discussed.
